Line Drawings Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are each a set of improvised duets between the two notable and well regarded soloists, veteran trombonist George McMullen and woodwind recording artist/composer Vinny Golia. The musical conversations that take place here between these two long time friends result in a masterful display of improvisational storytelling and spontaneous composition at the very highest level.

In these raw and unfiltered musical dialogues George McMullen brings his skillful and comprehensive trombone techniques into partnership with Vinny Golia’s multi-woodwind artistry, and it is clear from the very start that these are two improvisers of great dept and latitude. Each of these “Line Drawings” were spontaneously created and each of the track titles is evocative of the moods portrayed. Ranging from the tongue-in-cheek expressions of Fat Chance, through the crybaby “wows” of Wowsa and the airy melodicism of Looper Says What?, to the final deep impressions of Fulcrum and Didnai, there is no shortage of topics covered.
With George and Vinny adroitly shifting from colorful to more
stark, there is plenty here on Both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 for anyone
